Institute for Digital Research and Education:
Statistical Computing

The goal of the IDRE-STATS group is to help UCLA researchers solve their problems in statistical computing while helping them enhance their skills for performing excellent research. IDRE-STATS provides UCLA researchers with assistance in applied statistics, data analysis and statistical computing issues. The STATS group is comprised of four full-time staff with Ph.D.'s. This consulting team has a wide range of skills and knowledge in research methodology and applied statistics.  In addition to supporting statistical software, such as SAS, Stata and SPSS, IDRE-STATS also offers a variety of services, including walk-in and email consulting, web pages on statistical computing, online classes and seminars, periodic live seminars, and statistics books for loan.

Many researchers are able to find answers to their questions or expand their knowledge using the IDRE-STATS web site. The site receives approximately 800,000 hits per month, and has over 4,000 pages on a variety of statistical issues and techniques, and more than 60 online classes and seminars on topics in statistical computing. The group also maintains a library of over 600 statistics books that are available to UCLA researchers and online textbook examples showing how to use common statistical packages. These resources serve as a database of knowledge for the UCLA research community, the IDRE-STATS group and researchers worldwide.

Walk-in and email consulting services offer help tailored to the individual needs of UCLA researchers. (For more information about times and location please go to our Statistical Consulting Schedule.) You can join the ATSstat mailing list to be notified of classes in statistical computing, updates to our statistical computing web pages, and other news about our consulting services.

The IDRE-STATS group is constantly striving to improve our skills in research methodology and applied statistics, and to expand our expertise in advanced topics such as latent variable analysis, multilevel modeling and survey data analysis. Comments and suggestions for improving our services can be directed to atsstat@ucla.edu.
