IDRE Roundtable - Reusable Parallel Scalable Solvers
12-JUN-08 Noon -1:30 pm -- 5628 Visualization Portal Math Sciences
A discussion of several DOE-funded open-source parallel solvers that are designed for solving large systems of equations, a common need by many compute-intensive application codes. If used properly, the plug-in-play nature of these reusable tools could promote scalability, portability, efficiency, maintainability, and also reduce some burden of tuning an application code to utilize the true power of state-of-the-art massively parallel computers.

IDRE Resource News

IDRE Cluster Hosting Program – The original Hoffman Cluster will go offline on May 31, 2008. Its replacement, the new Shared Hoffman2 Cluster, logically organizes high performance clusters into several component clusters that are optimized for different research needs. Read more on how your research can benefit from this new strategy.

When Blue Waters, a joint venture by IBM and the Illinois' National Center for Supercomputing, goes online in 2011, it is expected to be 30 times more powerful than Ranger, the current scientific computing speed champion at the University of Texas. Researchers are already lining up for access.

Funding Opportunities

2009 INCITE Call for Proposals - The INCITE program will award significant allocations on some of the world's most powerful supercomputers to innovative, large-scale computational science projects to enable high-impact advances.
SC08, the international conference for high performance computing, takes place November 15-21, 2008, in Austin, Texas. It is offering participation grants to provide travel assistance to undergraduate and graduate students from groups that have traditionally been under-represented in computing.
