Step 8. Project Development

As projects advance beyond the planning phase, they will require coordination and participation from multiple campus partners. In addition to the faculty lead, more complex projects may warrant the hiring of a project manager and/or the assignment of a technical lead from the IDRE-HASIS core team.

As soon as project funding has been secured, the IDRE-HASIS team members identified in the MOU will work with you to meet your project’s development goals. While you will retain the ultimate responsibility for the project, and are expected to participate in the development, the identified IDRE-HASIS team members will be responsible for those activities outlined in the MOU. These responsibilities will depend on your project, but may include managing staff resources (such as writing job descriptions for technical staff and interviewing potential new hires), installing hardware and/or software, developing technical specifications, writing the technical component of grant applications, developing discreet project elements, designing user interfaces or graphics, geo-referencing or digitizing content, or transferring data files.

During the development phase, it is important that all members of the project team work together towards the project goals. Faculty PIs should expect to be involved in every stage of project development and will need to budget sufficient time to attend technical team meetings and work with the project technical lead.  Projects are never simply "handed-off" to the IDRE-HASIS technical team.
