IDRE-HASIS Digital Project Pipeline Information Guide (Steps 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9)

Step 2. Information Sessions, Consultation Request, and Individual Consultation

During the academic year, IDRE-HASIS team members regularly host and present at events that showcase recent projects and encourage discussion about production and workflow. If you would like to receive notices about these events, please subscribe to the IDRE listserve.

If you are interested in learning more about digital project development, please e-mail us to schedule an information session for you or your group with members of the IDRE-HASIS consortium.  In addition, we are happy to come to department and group meetings on request.

If you have a specific project idea that you would like to discuss with an IDRE-HASIS, please e-mail the IDRE-HASIS team with a brief description of your project, addressing the items described below.

If you are already planning to develop a digital project or simply want to discuss nascent ideas, please e-mail the IDRE-HASIS team to set up a consultation. Describe your idea as thoroughly as possible:

  • Tell us briefly about the research or course project you are interested in pursuing.  What do you aim to achieve?  If known, what technologies are you considering for this project?
  • Is this request a revision or expansion of an existing project?
  • Provide some examples of any work or projects similar to your idea. (Please send any relevant Word files, PowerPoint presentations, or URLs.)
  • Does your project idea involve creating digital materials or content that should be archived for long-term access?
  • What are your plans for the project's long-term preservation and sustainablity?
  • How much of this project are you expecting to complete yourself in the course of your own work?
  • What is your anticipated timeframe?
  • Have you received grants for this project in the past? If so, please describe.
  • Please identify any specific grant opportunities that you are currently targeting. (In general, grant applications require considerable preparation time, a minimum of two months for external grants and a month for internal grants.)
  • What is your department or research center affiliation with UCLA? (Campus units and academic personnel have first priority for staff resources; others will be considered based on capacity and relevance to the campus mission.)
  • Who have you already spoken with on campus about this project?
  • Provide your contact information.

At this time, you may also want to familiarize yourself with the policies of the UCLA Office of Intellectual Property & Industry Sponsored Research.  The OIP-ISR intellectual property guides offer basic information about patents, copyrights, and other questions about creating projects in the university environment.

Submitting Project Ideas Through IDRE-HASIS Partner Organizations

Humanities faculty can also request instructional and research project help from the Center for Digital Humanities (CDH) using their online project application form. The UCLA Office of Instructional Development (OID) administers three grant programs for faculty and departments to enhance instruction; check the OID grants website for proposal requirements and deadlines. All project ideas and support requests submitted to IDRE-HASIS partner organizations will be shared with the IDRE-HASIS core as appropriate.
